Walks you through the steps before the hearing and will get you prepared so you to can be competent at your hearing! Update 4-17-25, after one year of following requirements I now have a fully non restricted license! Thank you Bo!Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Having my driver's license suspended, when I was 18 and now being 51, it's way time to go for the return of my license. Being out of state, I went with Bo Schimers, of Taylor, Michigan. Bo Schimers charged me $1400 to go over and submit my request for a hearing, in my effort to restore my driving privileges. That's the first half, of the whole process. The other half would have been $1400 more, for his representing me, in the denied hearing requested, if my hearing request was granted, going through Atty. Schimers. After paying the first $1400 Bo Schimers became very difficult, to get in touch with. Prior, to paying Bo Schimers, he used to answer the phone, almost every time that I called, within the 1st, to the 3rd ring and would respond to text messages, as well. Knowledgeable, professional Bo Schimers submitted paperwork with dates scribbled out, changed and the court dismissed my appeal, as a result of the inconclusiveness of what Bo Schimers submitted, in my behalf. Over six weeks, after Bo Schimers confirmed that he had submitted my request, in my behalf, he texted me a partially illegible photo of the court's response, I couldn't see all of with a quick "Unfortunately, the SOS has denied your appeal. However, you are entitled to try again now". Since, I've gone unable, to reach Bo Schimers and he's provided, nor offered assist or response, in following through with anything, toward my next step, regarding "try again now". Trying to hire Bo Schimers was a risk, as is anything with the courts but had I read this review, I certainly would not have taken a risk, counting on Bo Schimers representing my interests. Now, instead of my license being suspended, it is revoked, as a result of my decision, to trust Attorney Schimers' representation of my interests. For a year, of the court's decision to deny my hearing request, I can't submit another request, for the restoration of the privilege to drive, until June 2025. I was better off with the suspended license. Shyster - American slang term, for one who is dishonest or unscrupulous, in politics, economics, or law. One could describe an attorney, who uses questionable methods, as a "shyster lawyer". Attorney Schimers offers a $30 rebate, for favorable reviews. Being so, I gave him five stars, in hopes of getting something back, on money and time wasted, relying on his service. In reply, to Bo Schimers reply, I bet you were glad to "help". You got $1400 for less than an hour of phone conversation. I gave you 5 stars, where's my $30? You did not help me navigate the process, at all. You've hindered me. You gave me a bunch of stuff to get done, looked nothing over, prior to submission, gave no direction, legal advice or ever hinted that I may need to do more, less or even edit what you submitted, "in my behalf". I was shystered by you, Bo Schimers. What would make it right would be for you to return my $1400 to pay a more reputable attorney.Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The timeline can vary depending on your specific situation, but most Michigan driver’s license restoration cases take several months from the time your petition is filed until a decision is issued. Preparing properly is key—gathering the right documentation, evidence of sobriety, and testimony can help avoid unnecessary delays. With an attorney’s guidance, you can ensure your case is ready the first time, which is critical since denials often require waiting a full year before reapplying.
Yes. Most license restoration cases require a hearing either in person or by video conference. This is your opportunity to demonstrate your sobriety and readiness to drive responsibly. Having an attorney represent you ensures you are fully prepared for the questions you’ll face.
Costs vary depending on the type of case. For license restoration, you can expect filing fees, substance abuse evaluation fees, and any costs related to obtaining documentation. Legal fees depend on the complexity of your case. While hiring an attorney is an investment, it can save you money and time in the long run by improving your chances of success and avoiding repeat filings.
You are not legally required to hire an attorney, but it is strongly recommended. Michigan’s DUI/OUI laws carry serious consequences, including possible jail time, fines, probation, license suspension, and long-term impacts on your record. An experienced DUI attorney can review the evidence, negotiate with prosecutors, and fight for the best possible outcome—often reducing penalties or even getting charges dismissed.
The most important step is to contact an attorney right away. Do not discuss your case with anyone other than your lawyer. Preserve any documents you received from law enforcement, and write down everything you remember about the stop and arrest. Timely legal advice can make a major difference in how your case is handled and the outcome you achieve.
Not necessarily. A charge does not automatically mean your license will be revoked. However, depending on the specific charge, prior history, and the outcome of your case, your license could be suspended or revoked. In some cases, you may be eligible for restricted driving privileges. An attorney can help you understand your options and fight to protect your driving rights.
