As a Michgan Attorney who deals in DUI’s and Drivers License Restoration, I was once asked in an interview about the Interlock Ignition Device.

This device is basically something for the drivers license restorations. When you are successful at that hearing then for the first year and thereafter they will require that you have installed in your vehicle and ignition interlock device. And that means that anybody that operates that vehicle must blow in it first before the engine actually starts and then sometimes people will have a work vehicle. That also means that any co worker that starts this work vehicle also must blow.

So you’ve got to be able to trust your co workers in regards to that. It’s not that rare of a situation where it’s workmen that have work trucks and the likes.

i have had my interlock device for about 8 months. never had any violations until may. i went out to the truck about 2 pm and blew. it failed an initial start up and locked my out for 15 minutes. i then took another test and passed followed by another. i was sick that weekend with strep was was perscribed several medications including a “magic mouthwash”. i dont know if the mouthwash would make me fail. i didnt think it had alcohol in it but was told that the adult benydryl contains alcohol and that it is used in the medicin. either way i dont know why i failed then followed with 2 passing test about a half hour later. i have been pulling my hair out. the machine indicated a .041 reading but did not prompt me for a violation reset. i am under the impression that 3 start up failures in a monitering period results in a minor violation. but on the other hand having even one recorded failure could put you on the hot seat. i rely on my vehical for work. should i be concerned? will they pull my restricted license for just that one thing. i dont know what to do.
